A look at the product decisions behind EventXplora's webinar and hybrid-event tooling, and why we built it the way we did.
When organizers started asking us for hybrid-event support, the first version we prototyped was too complicated — it tried to treat the online and in-person audiences as completely separate flows, with different registration, different check-in, and different reporting.
That approach broke down almost immediately. Organizers don't think in terms of 'online attendee' and 'offline attendee' as separate categories — they think in terms of one event, with people joining it in different ways.
So we rebuilt webinar mode around a single event record with multiple access modes. A ticket can grant venue entry, a webinar link, or both, and the organizer dashboard reports on the whole audience together instead of forcing a manual reconciliation between two systems afterward.
The result is a much simpler mental model for organizers: create one event, decide which sessions are in-person, which are streamed, and which are both — the platform handles registration, reminders, and attendance in one place.
This is also why hybrid events on EventXplora share the same QR check-in and analytics tooling as fully in-person events, instead of being a bolted-on separate product.
